Act with conscience, Okey Eze tells Imo Govt

APGA Chieftain, Mr. Okey Ezeh, has condemned the demolition of the Eke-Ukwu market which reportedly led to the death of three Imo citizens including 10-year-old Somtochukwu Ibeanusi.

Speaking to newsmen in Owerri, the former governorship aspirant observed that, though the government has the right to relocate a market, the practice the world over is to provide an alternative for the traders before any demolition is carried out.

He said that another dangerous angle to the market demolition in Imo is that it was done against a subsisting court order. Mr. Ezeh who reminded the Imo governor that the primary responsibility of any government is the protection of life and property of the citizens lamented what he described as avoidable and heart breaking loss of lives.

He said if the government had completed the new market being build around Egbeada, the colossal loss of lives and property would have being avoided.

He sympathized with the families of the dead and all traders who lost their goods and called for adequate compensation.

Mr. Ezeh maintained that any policy that leads to the death of any Imo citizens is not worth being implemented.
