Politician slams Imo govt ... For donating hospitals built with tax payers money to FG
The Imo State government has received knocks for giving out some of the 27 hospitals built in every local government to federal government agencies.
The former special Assistant on protocol to the Late Gov. Evan Enwerem, Hon. John Duruji, described the move as ridiculous, wondering how a state that has been clamouring for federal presence can turn round and play Father Christmas to the federal government 10 times richer than Imo State.
Hon. Duruji, who was speaking to newsmen in Owerri, observed that the hospitals were built at huge costs to the tax payer.
He called on all well-meaning Imo people to condemn the policy and mount pressure on Gov. Rochas Okorocha to stop donating more Imo projects to the federal government.
According to Duruji, for the past six years, the slogan has been “Rochas is working”, “Rochas is working”. He asked whether he is working for other federal agencies or for the people who elected him.
Hon. Duruji, said that the excruciating hardship in the state was alarming, with civil servants and pensioners at the receiving end and wormed that without restoring the socid-economic rights of the people, the much touted slogan of “working” is a mirage. The governor indicated his interest in making Imo viable for medical tourism and emphasized that although donated to the agencies, they would also serve the communities where they are located.
He did not state the terms of the takeover.
In a radio programmeon my Radio FM 101.1, an All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain and former member representing Owerri in the federal House of Representatives, Hon Uche Onyeagucha, had called on the governor to make good his campaign promises.
He said he was tendering an apology to Imo people for what he described as abysmal performance of the rescue government of Owelle Rochas Okorocha.
