Former Minister of Power, Ven. (Prof.) Chinedu Nebo, has lambasted some Christians who have lost sight of the main gospel of Jesus Christ while chasing after fake signs and wonders.
Ven. Nebo was delivering a sermon at the second session of the seventh synod of the Anglican Diocese of Abakaliki held at the Emmanuel Church, Azuiyiokwu in Abakaliki, capital of Ebonyi State.
He regretted that believers in Jesus Christ today do not actually have any idea whom the Lord Jesus Christ is.
According to him, there is so much fanfare in today's Church, which, he said, was in sharp contrast with the teachings of Jesus Christ.
“It is unfortunate at a time the church should be gearing up for the second coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, we see such moral decadence, so much apostasy, so much heresy instead of people hanging on to the solid rock, our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ”, the cleric said.
He said that many people are going to church for the sake of it and do not know what it means to be born-again.
The Anglican priest as well as academic lamented that the church had fallen and believers are chasing after sings and wonders, forgetting that Jesus Christ said that these signs shall follow them that believe in Him.
“He said that in my name they shall cast our demons and heal the sick. Instead, those who are believers are now following these signs and wonders,”, he said, regretting that they are being led astray as a result.
He pleaded with Christians to return to Christ.
The theme of the Synod was, Man where you are: A call for professors of Christ of this generation to define their standing in the Lord”.
Bishop of the Diocese, Rt. Rev. Monday Nkwoagu, said that the theme was apt, given the critical condition in which Christians are today, where the church is thickly populated, yet transformation, regeneration and new life is lacking.
