Anglican bishops have expressed strong belief that the permanent solution to the killings by herdsmen lies in the establishment of ranches in line with world best practices.
The bishops, in a communiqué which they issued at the end of their 2018 annual Episcopal Retreat at the Ibru Ecumenical Centre, Agbarha-Otor, Delta State, also rejected Federal Government's proposal to build cattle colonies.
According to the prelates, the young herdsmen deserve a better opportunity for education and advancement in life. They stated that it would be “unkind to design a life of perpetual wandering for these class of youths.”
The House of Bishops sympathized with the families of victims of the Fulani herdsmen attack in the country, observing also that the inaction of government has led to suspicions that there is complicity of the Federal Government in the acts.
They, therefore, called on the Federal Government to urgently address the ugly trend and bring culprits to book.
The Federal Government, the bishops stated, should use federal agencies, especially the army and police, for national interests rather than personal and sectional interests.
They also called for immediate dialogue on restructuring of the country and condemned high cost of petroleum products.
