WE WON’T ACCEPT AMNESTY FOR CULTISTS - Awara people

The people of Awara in Ohaji/Egbema LGA of Imo State, have rejected the amnesty given to some suspected cultists who were said to have surrendered their weapons recently to the Imo State Government.

In a statement, signed by the coordinator of the group, Mr. Ifeanyi Isife,the community of Awara Court Area which consists of Awara, Asaa and Obile, pointed out that some of them had taken amnesty in 2016 and had defied it by committing further atrocities.

They condemned the amnesty which the Imo State governor, Owelle Rochas Anayo Okorocha, gave the suspects who, they said, were members of Don Waney's gang who allegedly killed some people returning from cross over night worship on Jan. 1 this year, in Omoku, River State.

This came on the heels of the outbursts of Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State over the amnesty issue, indicating that it may not be freedom yet for the alleged cultists.

Gov. Wike had accused Gov. Okorocha of Imo State and the All Progressives Congress (APC) government of politicizing security to the disadvantage of the rest of the country.

Wike made the declaration when he signed a bill into law at the Government House, Port Harcourt.

He alleged that those who got the Imo State amnesty were the wanted cultists in the Don Waney's gang who were said to have killed 23 persons in Omoku, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State on New Year Day.
