Cry out against injustice, bad leadership - Bishop urges women

Nigerian women have been asked to cry out against injustice and bad leadership experienced in many parts of this country, especially in the Eastern states.

The Anglican Bishop of Owerri, Rt. Rev. C.C. Okorocha Ph.D, made this call while preaching at a thanksgiving service held at St. John's Anglican Church , New Owerri, to mark the end of the four-day Owerri Diocesan Biennial Women's Conference with the theme: "CHRIST IN YOU, THE HOPE OF GLORY".

Bishop Okorocha, who captioned his homily: "How Can Women Help in the Building and Healing of Our Nation?", described as worrisome, a situation where a leader is leading wrongly and nobody summons the courage to call him to order.

He then challenged women, to emulate the kind of courage demonstrated by Mrs Pontius Pilate of the Holy Bible, when according to him, she bluntly told the husband, Pontius Pilate, vide Matthew 27:19, "not to have anything to do with that innocent man, for I have suffered a great deal today in a dream because of him", adding that, until women of this nation come out to oppose the high level of bad leadership prevalent in most parts of the country, the blessing and peace of God would continue to elude the nation.

The Prelate, further pointed out that, when women earnestly pray and weep, God hears them, arguing that, the conscience of the nation lies with the women.

According to him, women should be the conscience of their respective families, church and the nation, and should also try to be in touch with God, adding that the nation would never become better until we have women who have Christ in them, and who constitute themselves into the conscience of the society, such that would enable them wake up and condemn the evil deeds of their husbands.

He enjoined the women to wake up and tell their husbands-politicians, priests and religious leaders - what the Lord told them in their dreams so that the church and society will be better.

Nine distinguished mothers were installed as the 2017 conference mothers while Architect Miriam Uchegbu PhD, was also honoured by the Bishop at the service.

The first lesson drawn from Exodus 29:42-46 was read by the host Archdeacon's wife, Mrs. Vicky Okere, while the Bishop's wife, Dr. Mrs. Eunice Okorocha, handled the second lesson from Col. 1:19-29.

Many dignitaries from far and near, including the wife of Bishop of Isi Mbano, Lady Godiva Ukanwa, attended the service.
