Rotary Club Owerri instals new president





The Rotary Club of Owerri District 9142 recently installed RTN. Justice Oguike KSC as the 39th president of the club in Owerri, during which some citizens of Imo State were conferred with awards of honour.


Presenting his valedictory speech, the outgoing president, RTN Tony Nwanyaka, who was also the chairman of the ceremony, stated that new presidents are now subjected to 18 months leadership training before they are installed.

He disclosed that during his one year tenure, his administration promoted education; embarked on disease control and treatments including medical and material care and restored peace in communities, it also provided soft loan of N100,000 each to five indigent persons and pooled resources together to fight hunger and poverty while also providing $2,000 to fight polio worldwide.

RTN Nwanyaka noted that Rotary is not just a service organization but also a humanitarian one.

He assured the people that the new president, Justice Oguike would carry the club to a greater height.

The chairman, RTN Tony Nwanyaka, assisted by the installation committee chairman Rtn. Val Obiese, performed the installation.

In his acceptance speech, the president assured the people and club members that he would serve God and humanity in his tenure of 2017/2018 rotary year with humility and diligence.

Highlight of the event was the induction of the 18 members of the new board of directors of the club, in presence of the assistant district Governor, Rtn. Chidi Nkwopara. The occasion also featured the guest lecturer, Dr. Uchenna Eugene Ewelike.

Some of the people conferred with awards of the honour are Prof. Jude Njoku, Dr. Uchenna Ewelike, Dr. Uchenna T. Oguwike; RTN. H.A.C. Anyadike, Dr. Benjamin Azubuike and others.

The event attracted friends of the president and the Rotary Club including representatives of St. Stephen's Anglican Church Oji, Owerri, Sir Mich Ahamba (SAN) and others.
