Anglicans get new dean Sunday, May 7

The House of Bishops, Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, will appoint a new Dean and a new Chancellor on May 7, this year, when they converge in Owerri for the consecration of four new bishops and the dedication of CATOL on May 6.


The Bishop of Owerri, Rt. Rev. Cyril C. Okorocha Ph.D, made this known during the Easter Sunday service, last Sunday, at the Cathedral Church of the Transfiguration of Our Lord (CATOL).

He thanked those who have contributed and worked tirelessly towards the completion of the Cathedral and urged others to also identify with the efforts in order to benefit from the blessings of God.

The bishop apologized to those who booked for their weddings on the Cathedral complex but could not actualize their dream because of the ongoing works at the Cathedral.

Delivering the sermon for the day, the Bishop advised Chriatians to look up to Jesus when the burden of life befall them and when they arrived at a moment of impossibility.

He also asked Christians to stop looking into the grave or at their past life because, according to him, the stone has been rolled away, as Jesus Christ, by his resurrection, did not only conquer death but also has taken it upon himself to bear the burdens and sins. of the world, if we believe and focus on Him.

Bishop Okorocha noted that, though Jesus has gained victory over death and has also been bearing the burdens of man, yet, he said ,some people are still carrying their burdens on themselves, instead of looking up to Jesus, the Saviour of the world, to do it for them.

He dismissed the common saying that "heaven helps those who help themselves" but rather averred that God helps those who cannot help themselves and come to Him, stressing also why a believer should focus on Jesus Christ who holds the key to the future, rather than bother oneself about the future.

Making reference to the theme of the homily: "NO REGRETS"; the Prelate "explained that God created man for a purpose and sent His Son, Jesus, to redeem mankind, with the assurance that, whoever puts his hands in the hands of Jesus would be better for it and God, he said, has the key to our destiny, and not man. This, he emphasized, is the Resurrection Message.
