Imo urban Renewal project may spread to Okigwe, Orlu - Rochas

Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State has assured the people of the state that his urban renewal project which has taken off in Owerri metropolis would be applied also in Okigwe and Orlu.
This is to ensure that the state becomes the hub of tourism in Nigeria.

Gov Okorocha, who was addressing journalists at the NUJ Press Centre, Port Harcourt Road, recently, called on Imo people as well as others from other places to invest in Imo.

Owelle Okorocha used the occasion to blow his trumpet, insisting that he has performed more than any other governor in Imo State in the past.

He listed his achievements to include free education, transformation of Owerri capital city through road expansion and rehabilitation and street lights, among other infrastructure.

According to him, his administration has uplifted the judiciary as well as strengthened the alternative conflict resolution department to decongest the courts and foster peace in the state.

He said he had also embarked on the completion of projects started by past administration such as a new university of agriculture at Ngor-Okpala, the engineering department of Imo State University (IMSU) as well as reclaiming the Rasin Paints Industry at Aboh Mbaise and the cardboard and paper packaging industry at Owerre Ebeiri and turning them into better industrial outfits.

Also listed in his achievements are the security network and the State Department Councils (SDC) for grassroots development. According to him, with the new development, “government house is now in every ward” and pensioners no longer come to Owerri for their pay.

The governor announced that local government elections would be conducted in September/October, this year.

Speaking, the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Chairman, Imo State Council, Sir Innocent Igwe, commended the governor for partnering with journalists.

He assured the governor of support and adequate reportage.
