Declare for 2019 now or forget it - Group tells guber aspirants from Owerri Zone

Intending governorship aspirants from Owerri zone have been asked to declare their governorship ambitions or forget it in 2019.

The Owerri Awareness Coalition issued the marching orders in the Imo State capital, recently, lamenting that despite the agitation it had been putting up, drumming on the need for Owerri zone to produce the next governor of Imo State in 2019, no one has indicated interest in the contest.

In a statement made available to newsmen and signed by its chairman, Mr. John Anyanwu as Chairman and Michael Njemanze as Secretary, the group wondered why aspirants from the zone are shying away from the race.

It stated that it is disappointed that Owerri zone aspirants are not showing enough interest in the contest.

“We have noticed that Owerri zone aspirants are shying away from the contest and this underscores their lack of seriousness in actualizing the bid of the zone to produce the next governor of Imo State in 2019” OAC said.

The coalition said; “We urge those from Owerri Zone who intend to vie for the 2019 governorship contest to declare their ambition before the end of 2017 or forget the support of the group and the entire Owerri zone”.

It said it is disappointing that leaders of the zone have not marched the agitation to have the next governor of the state with seriousness, leaving the political stage in the state for less fancied aspirants from Okigwe and Orlu zones.

The coalition pointed out that “mere political noise and hoping to have the next governor of the state through appeals and political noise making and threats will not give the zone the governorship of Imo State on a platter of gold”

“Based on the foregoing, we call on our qualified sons and daughters of the state who are interested in the governorship contest to declare their ambition before the year ends or forget our support”, the statement stated.

The group, however, said they will not relent in championing the cause of the people of the zone to have next governor of Imo State, but stated that such agitation should be measured up by well meaning sons and daughters of the zone by declaring their ambitions early enough.
