Wife of the Ondo State Governor and President of Breast Cancer Association of Nigeria, Mrs. Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, has counseled women to always submit themselves for regular breast examination. She said the idea was to enable them detect early enough the presence of the disease.
Mrs Anyanwu-Akeredolu who was in Imo State for the flag-off of the 2017 August Meeting, gave the advised at the Cathedral Church of all Saints, Egbu during a Eucharistic Service, explained that for a woman to detect any change in her breast she must be familiar with her breast, pointing out that the only way to have this knowledge was to do a monthly self examination, which she said her organisation would teach them.
The first lady of Ondo State who observed with regret that owing to late presentation of the disease by victims, the death toll has been enormous and stated plans of her organisation to institute a breast cancer awareness club in the State.
She condemned the attitude of some cancer patients who rather than seek for medication in hospitals resort to prayer houses , only to realise late that the cancer has continued to grow to an incurable stage.
The Ondo State Governor's wife said she was exited by her presence at the Cathedral being an old girl of Egbu Girls Secondary, stressing that it was like a home coming for her.

She pointed out that she could see her teenage self with nostalgia as she stepped into Cathedral recalling how they as students filled out into the cathedral, while she was in school.

Anyanwu of Emeabiam, in Owerri West LGA advised parents not to discriminate against the education of the girl child but encouraged them to invest in their girl child, maintaining that every girl that received proper education is usually an asset to the family and the nation.
