Police nab three Internet fraudsters




The police in Imo State have arrested three persons suspected to have used the name of Governor Rochas Okorocha's aide and son-in-law, Uche Nwosu, to defraud people through the social media.

Parading the suspects in Owerri, recently, the state's Police Commissioner, CP Chris Ezike, said that the suspects created a Facebook account using Nwosu's name and uploaded pictures of his state functions for the purpose of defrauding users of the media. 

According to CP Ezike, “the suspects posted on the site, transactions relating to allocation of lands, award of contracts, fertilizer distribution and employment opportunities and used this media to defraud unsuspecting members of the public who had a mindset that they were dealing with the real Chief of staff of millions of naira.

The command stated that a painstaking investigation by the State Intelligence Burean (SIB) led to the suspects who were soon to be charged to court.

The police boss warned users of Facebook to be mindful of whom they add or accept as friends.

He said that the adoption of result-oriented strategies in the command's security architecture had whittled crime in the state.

CP Ezike also said that the adoption of the whistle blowing policy and the introduction of the state Owerri Township Special Security outfit by the state command had continued to send shivers to the pines of men of the underworld, adding that the command had recorded zero crime in the last two weeks.

Meanwhile, three armed robbery suspects said to be operating with a tricycle (Keke) were also arrested by the Anti-Vice Squad of the police in Owerri on Tuesday.

Police said they trailed an Oando Filling Station sales boy on Aba Road and robed him of the sum of N1million.

One locally made pistol, one live cartridge and a tricycle were recovered from the suspects, according to the police.
