As the Southern Kaduna crisis persists and so-called herdsmen continue to attack villagers, mainly Christian communities, the Primate of all Nigeria (Anglican Communion) the Most Rev. Nicholas Okoh, has called on the Federal Government to disarm those who are not authorized to carry arms.
Primate Okoh was speaking at Abeokuta, Ogun State, during the Standing Committee meeting of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) hosted by the Egba Diocese.
He reiterated the need for the federal government to be alive to its responsibility of protecting lives and property of its citizens.
“One section cannot be carrying arms and others are suffering”, he said, adding that if the government does not intervene now, they will push the situation to degenerate into anarchy.
He condemned, in its entirely, the incessant attacks of Fulani herdsmen on the innocent farmers and villagers and called on the government to bring to book the perpetrators of these evils.
The primate, who was given a rousing welcome in Abeokuta by the Anglican faithful and others, prayed for the speedy recovery of the president who is currently in London.
He charged youths to not only be trained physically but also spiritually. The primate charged the boys and girls brigade members that turned out to welcome him to bring their training to bear in their lives as it will help them.
At a dinner organized for the visiting bishops, their wives and delegates to the standing committee by the paramount ruler of Egbaland, Oba Michael Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, The Alake of Egbaland in his palace, Primate Okoh described Ogun State as a state of excellence and Egbaland as the “soul of Christianity” which should not be allowed to die.
He gave kudos to the first African Anglican Bishop, Ajayi Crowther, and described the good things coming from the land as gifts from Jesus Christ.
He admonished the Alake to continue to relate with Christ and his church and that the heritage must be passed on, nurtured and promoted. Also speaking at the dinner, the wife of the Ogun State Governor, Dr (Mrs) Olufunsho Amosun, gave kudos to the Church Nigeria (Anglican Communion) for spreading the gospel with pragmatic zeal over Nigeria and beyond.
The Bishop of Egba Anglican Diocese Rt. Rev. Emmanuel Oludaisi Adekunle, expressed gratitude to God for the success of the meeting.
He said that the them; “I am that I am”, was apt and was a way |God proved Himself to man.
According to him, it is a form of assurance that He is God and He is able to deliver them from all their challenges. The meeting was held from February 20 to 24.
