2017 Owerri Diocesan Synod organizers patted on the back

Organizers of the just- concluded four-day synod of the Anglican Diocese of Owerri, held at Christ's Church Archdeaconry Owerri, has continued to receive commendations from people of different tribes, both within and outside the country for a job well done.

The synod, which was variously described as a milestone in the history of Owerri Diocese, witnessed a great spiritual revival that marked a resolve not just to guard the gospel but to live it out.

It also threw a challenge to all Christian faithful not to relent in the spread of the gospel, especially through virtuous and exemplary living.

Some of the delegates who spoke to Christian Voice expressed satisfaction that the synod was able to handle and resolve certain lingering issues in the Diocese, and attributed it to the dynamic leadership of the Lord Bishop of Owerri, Rt. Rev. Cyril C. Okorocha PhD, under the guide of the Holy Spirit.

In his remark, the President of the Council of Knights of the Anglican Diocese of Owerri, Sir Gab Oduah, described the synod theme “Guard the Gospel” as very critical and timely, considering the present situation of the country.

He called on Christians to rise up to the challenge to defend the Church even in years ahead.

He said: “The Muslim world is putting pressure on Christians here and there. All they want is to see that Christianity is wiped out completely.

“So, the Bishop has, through his presidential address, called on Christians to continuously guard the gospel through exemplary living and as well as be ready to fight for the cause of Christ.

He, however, called on the Christian faithful not to be hypocritical about Christianity but to be more focused and committed in the things of God.

Also speaking, another delegate from the Anglican Church of Resurrection, Umudagu Mbieri, Sir Jerry Opara, called for a serious implementation of the synod decisions.

“The Lord Bishop, is the chief shepherd of this Diocese and, by his spiritual guidance, I believe all the issues raised during the synod will follow due process and be implemented.

Opara, who could not hide his feelings, congratulated the Lord Bishop of Owerri Diocese, Rt. Rev. Cyril C. Okorocha, for a successful synod, and also the Archdeacon of the host Church, Venerable Zion Ngoka, the entire members of Christ's Church Archdeaconry, for a job well done.
