Former Nigeria's External Affairs Minister, Odein Ajumogobia, SAN, has been appointed the new Chancellor of Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion).
The Primate of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, the Most Rev'd Nicholas Okoh, who presented and introduced the new chancellor at the 12th General Synod of the Anglican Communion, in St Paul's Cathedral, Port Harcourt, described Odein Ajumogobia as now 'Minister of God.'
The Primate also announced the election of Bishop of Diocese of Kwara, the Most Rev'd Olusegun Adeyemi as the new Archbishop of Kwara Province. The Most Rev'd Okoh, said the new Archbishop takes over from the Most Rev'd Michael Akinyemi who retired.
Delegates at the Synod warmly acknowledged the two appointments with great applause even as the Primate prayed that God should guide the new appointees in the discharge of their functions.
The General Synod had in attendance one hundred and seventy five members of House of Bishops, including 168 serving bishops and seven retired bishops.
Other delegates include 261 members of House of Clergy and 241 members of the House of Laity.
The Bishop of Evo Diocese, the Rt. Rev'd Innocent Ordu, is the Chairman of the Synod Organising Committee, while His Excellency, the Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Ezenwo Wike is the Co-Chairman.
The General Synod ended on Friday September 22, 2017.
