Bishop Geoffrey Okorafor of the Anglican Diocese of Egbu has spoken angrily about the state of affairs in Nigeria's education sector, even as the country celebrates to 57 years of nationhood.
The Bishop was speaking at Emeabiam in Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State, recently.
He regretted that because the Nigeria education sector had deteriorated, a masters degree holder is now subjected to further scrutiny before proceeding for further studies.
The prelate urged the government to sanitize the university system by eliminating sorting and making some students undertake realistic laboratory tutorials before graduating.
He expressed worries that, at 57, Nigerians and their leaders are still fooling about in sycophancy when they are capable of being great.
According to him, our leaders should look into why Nigerians delight in sending their children abroad for studies and correct the anomalies in the education system.
On the situation of Ndigbo in Nigeria, he advised them to unite, pointing out that agitations in the form of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) cannot solve the problem of the people.
He, however, advised Igbos to embrace economic ventures where they have comparative advantage, urging a return to agriculture rather than looking up North for virtually all their food needs.
Bishop Okorafor was elated at the uncommon courage of 84-year-old Pa Ernest Anyanwu who was confirmed after renouncing membership of a secret cult, as well as Mr. and Mrs. Okechukwu Njemanze who also got reconciled after being separated for more than 20 years.
The Bishop commended the congregation of Emeabiam Parish, the Vicar, Rev. Canon Daniel Emuka, his wife Mrs. Chiletem Emuka, Church workers and their wives for fishing out the good number of candidates presented.
He, however, decried lateness.
