The police in Imo State at the weekened dispelled rumours that they were in the court premises on the day one of the state's biggest crime suspects, Henry Chibueze, alias Vampire, escaped with other prison detainees in Owerri.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Imo State, DSP Andrew Enwerem, who spoke to Christian Voice, also said that no policeman lost his life during the incident.
According to him, it was the routine for Prison personnel to escort the detainees to the court without the police unless in a case the police were brought in.
He said that on that day, the police were not called in to take care of the situation at the High Court premises where Vampire and other suspects were standing trial.
He, however, assured that the police, in collaboration with other security agencies, were working to ensure the re-arrest of the big fish and his acolytes.
The PPRO said that no one had the premonition of the planned escape of the alleged confessed suspect who was paraded before newsmen on arrest by the SSS in 2015.
DSP Enwerem told Christian Voice that the security of the state at the moment has been satisfactory, adding that in January his office recorded the arrest of three major crime suspects and a stolen car was recovered.
“We have also declared war on cultists”, he said.
